On Thursday, Chennai Super Kings captain MS Dhoni hit a six off Siddarth Kaul in the final over of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, advancing his team to the play-offs. CSK needed three runs to win against a run-rule of 135 in the final over, and Ambati Rayudu provided the decisive strike. Dhoni smashed the ball over the boundary ropes for a six in the fourth over to put the match beyond doubt. CSK not only won the game, but also qualified for the play-offs, thanks to Dhoni’s six off Kaul.
Mahendra Singh Dhoni (MSD) won the toss and invited SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) to bat at the Sharjah Cricket Ground. After scoring a half-century in the previous match, SRH lost Jason Roy for two runs, putting them behind in the series.
Dwayne Bravo’s full delivery was also missed by Captain Kane Williamson, who struggled to get a grip on the bat. Priyam Garg was ejected after the West Indies all-rounder struck again.
Wriddhiman Saha’s 44 and late contributions from Abhishek Sharma and Abdul Samad helped SRH reach 134/7 in 20 overs. CSK had the ideal platform to go after the small target thanks to Faf du Plessis and Ruturaj Gaikwad.
They put on a 75-run partnership for the first time in the game. With innings of 45 and 41, respectively, Gaikwad and Du Plessis fell short of the half-century mark. CSK was able to complete the task with two balls remaining in the game.
