Samajwadi Party founder and former Uttar Pradesh CM Mulayam Singh Yadav passed away on October 10, 2024, at Medanta Hospital located in Gurugram, his son and former UP CM Akhilesh Yadav said. Mulayam Singh Yadav was aged 82.
Mulayam Singh Yadav was undergoing treatment at the Medanta Hospital on 22nd August and was shifted to the ICU on 2nd October.
He was quite critical since then and was being treated in the ICU.
Mulayam Singh Yadav served as Uttar Pradesh CM three times (1989-91, 1993-95, and 2003-2007). He is survived by two sons, Akhilesh, a former UP CM, and Prateek.
Yadav suffered electoral losses after he ordered the firing on the Kar Sevaks at the peak of the Ram Janmabhoomi movement in the year 1990, but he pitted himself as the savior of the spirit of the Constitution and came to power by forging a strong Muslim-Yadav combination.
Mulayam Singh Yadav also held the Defence portfolio during the United Front government in the year 1996.
