National Farmers Day: Farmers are the backbone of society. They are the ones who work around the clock to ensure that people do not starve but they themselves struggle for 2-time meals per day. Hence, Farmers Day is observed every year across the country to create awareness and reward farmers for their contribution to society.

Kisan Diwas or Farmers Day is marked every year on 23rd December across India to praise and reward farmers as they are the backbone of India. This day was chosen to honor the birth anniversary of Choudhary Charan Singh, the fifth PM of India, who was born on 23rd December 1902.
Once, Choudhary Charan Singh said, “The true India resides in its villages.”

The Kisan leader Chaudhary Charan Singh served as the Prime Minister of the country from 28th July 1979 to 14th January 1980. He introduced many welfare schemes for the farmers. Therefore, the government decided to mark the birth anniversary of Charan Singh as Kisan Diwas in 2001.
Chaudary Charan Singh followed the famous slogan that was given by the second Prime Minister of India, Lal Bahadur Shastri – “Jai Jawan Jai Kisan”.
India is primarily the land of villages in which the majority of the people are having agriculture as their main source of income. The farmers face many problems and all the people are not aware of them.
People remain ignorant about the necessary information about the farmers’ section. Therefore, celebrations work on educating people about these issues and also focus on the empowerment of farmers with the latest technologies of agriculture.
On National Farmers Day, several debates, quizzes, discussions, and competitions are held to discuss the issues that are related to farmers and agriculture.
