National Youth Day also called Yuva Diwas is observed every year on 12th January in India. To recognize the contributions of Swami Vivekananda to Indian society, The Yuva Diwas is celebrated on his Jayanthi. He is one of the most popular philosophers of India.
Swami Vivekananda Jayanti is marked as Youth Day to honor him and to encourage the youth to work hard and contribute to the development of the country.
National Youth Day 2024: History & Significance
In 1985, the Government of India declared Swami Vivekananda’s birthday the Yuva Diwas of India. The motive behind this is to motivate the youth of India to follow in the footsteps of Swami Vivekananda. He is a consistent inspiration to lakhs of people even today.
Different states in India organize multiple events to celebrate this day. For example, Uttar Pradesh state conducts a two-day event called ‘Mission Bhartiyam’ and ‘Basti Yuvo Mahotsav’, to motivate the youth of India.
A National Youth Festival is organized in India where people across the country participate in various cultural and educational activities to promote harmony in the country.
The Ramakrishna Math and Mission celebrates Youth Day on a large scale by organizing devotional and meditation programs, etc.
