Previously, Choudhary was Deputy Chief of the Air Force General Staff at Air Force Headquarters and Senior Air Staff Officer at Eastern Air Command. Before Choudhary took over from him as deputy chief in July, Choudhary was Commander-in-Chief of Western Air Command. It is the largest air command in the Indian Air Force and is responsible for parts of the two borders with Pakistan and China. Western Air Command is also responsible for the security of Ladakh, where tensions between India and China have risen since May 2020.
Choudhary has more than 3,800 hours of flight experience, including operational flight of the MiG21, MiG23MF fighter jets. , MiG29 and Sukhoi30MKI. on his service, he received the Param Vishisht Seva Medal, the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal and the Vayu Sena Medal.
