Norovirus: The Kerala government on Sunday said that Norovirus infection, similar to the Rotavirus, was conformed in two children in Thiruvananthapuram.
What is Norovirus?
According to CDC (Centre For Disease Control) and Prevention in the United States, it is highly contagious that causes diarrhea and vomiting.
Norovirus is sometimes called winter vomiting bug or stomach flu. The NHS (National Health Service) of the UK says that the norovirus can be very unpleasant but usually goes away in about two days.
Norovirus Symptoms
As per CDC, Norovirus causes inflammation of the stomach or intestines, which is called acute gastroenteritis.
A person usually develops symptoms 12-48 hours after being exposed to Norovirus. Most people with this Norovirus infection get better within 1-3 days.
Some typical Norovirus symptoms are Diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and stomach pain, and other symptoms include headache, fever, and body aches.
How does Norovirus spread?
A healthy person can get infected with Norovirus by eating food or drinking liquids that are already contaminated, touching objects or surfaces contaminated with Norovirus, and then putting fingers in your mouth, having direct contact with someone who is infected with Norovirus.
Norovirus Treatment
There is no specific medicine to treat people infected with Norovirus. The CDC suggests drinking plenty of liquids to replace the fluid lost from diarrhea and vomiting to help prevent dehydration.
