Sardar Udham Story
Udham is a relatively unknown figure in Indian history compared to any other freedom fighters. Udham probably got into it after witnessing the Jallianwala Bagh massacre at Amritsar on April 13, 1919. On this day, then Lieutenant-Governor of Punjab, Michael O’Dwyer, ordered his soldiers to fire on a huge gathering of unarmed men, women, and children, who gathered to celebrate Baisakhi (New Year). With his shoot-to-kill orders, hundreds died on that evening, and many hundreds of people were wounded. Dwyer was recalled, but he showed no repentance for his action and instead explained that he wanted to avoid a re-run of the 1857 revolt or Independence war.
Udham, who reached the Bahg later, helped so many injured people to the hospital. This scene was frighteningly bloody. His girlfriend, Reshma (Banita Sandhu) was also dead. By seeing all these, Udham decided to take revenge in his own style.
Udham dared to take on the might of the British Empire by shooting down Dwyer in a public meeting in 1940 in London.
Sardar Udham Movie Review: Performance
Vicky Kaushal shines in the second half. Amol Parashar is phenomenal in some scenes that he has. Banita Sandhu has done a decent job.
Sardar Udham Movie Review: Negative Aspects
The narrative stretched to 147 minutes. There are some unnecessary prolonged scenes.
