“Sero Survey” … Herd Immunity on Indian people?
New Delhi: The Sero Survey has found that 67.6 percent of people in India have corona antibodies. This raises the question of whether India is getting closer to Herd Immunity against Corona.
The ICMR Sero Survey has been carried out since the beginning of the corona spread in India. While 3 Sero Surveys have been completed so far, the results of the 4th Sero Survey are now out
According to the 4th Sero Survey, 67.6% of people in India are found to have corona antibodies. Sero survey results show that 40 crore people do not have corona antibodies in their bodies.
How come?
They will test the blood samples of specific individuals in an area and test their bodies for antibodies against the corona. If there is an antibody against corona in the blood it means that corona has come and healed them. The presence of an IgM or IgG antibody in a person’s body will ensure that they have corona. This is the Sero Survey.
Discovery by ICMR
ICMR follows a simple method to find this out. The IgG antibody is usually formed within 2 weeks after the corona arrives. Sero survey will only find out how much IgG antibody is present. With this you can find out about the corona spread.
Herd Immunity?
Corona antibody has been detected in 67.6% of people in India. This raises the question of whether India is close to Herd Immunity. But the ICMR said that Herd Immunity is not possible at the moment. Accordingly, ICMR Chairman Dr. Balram Bhargava said in a statement that corona has not yet spread in India
40 crore people
Another 40 million people do not have corona, according to the Sero Survey. Thus people need to be careful. Herd Immunity has no chance right now. He noted that many children and the elderly are still at risk for corona. This fourth survey was conducted on a total of 28,975 general public 7,252 frontline employees in India.
Is there a chance?
Heart immunity in general occurs when more than 70 percent of the general population is affected by a disease. If more than 70 percent of people are infected, they will have antibodies that will prevent the disease from spreading further and break the chain. But herd immunity in the corona is not so easily possible. It requires certain time period to get developed among people thus it won’t be a remedy to be trusted for the upcoming 3rd corona wave which requires steady and quick response to control it as soon as possible.
The problem
The corona is spreading in many mutant forms. Many variants have been developed. Thus once a victim is likely to be affected again. Those who have antibodies to one type of corona attack are at risk for another type of corona attack. Thus, even if 70 percent of people have more antibodies, it is not possible to get Herd immunity against corona, say ICMR experts.
