Posters criticising the Vice-Chancellor of Aligarh Muslim University for condoling the death of former Chief Minister Kalyan Singh appeared on campus, causing the Uttar Pradesh administration to warn of stern action against anyone who have “Talibani mindset” when the incident was investigated.
“Praying for a criminal is an unforgiving crime,” claimed the posters, which were posted on the AMU campus with the words “Students of Aligarh Muslim University” printed on them. “The AMU VC’s condolence comments on the death of ex-chief minister of Uttar Pradesh Kalyan Singh are not only a source of shame, but also wounded our community’s religious emotions,” the poster added.
“Kalyan Singh is not only the major culprit in the demolition of the Babri Masjid, but also an offender for failing to obey the Supreme Court’s decision,” it claimed.
“The VC’s condolences have brought shame on the entire AMU fraternity, its traditions, and the Aligarh Movement, all of which believe in justice and fairness. We strongly condemn our VC’s heinous behavior.”
Aligarh Muslim University’s Vice-Chancellor is Tariq Mansoor.
State Minister Mohsin Raza reacted angrily, saying the VC acted in accordance with “our culture,” and that putting up such posters was an attempt to poison the atmosphere.
“If there are Talibani “soch” there, we will treat them accordingly,” he stated. The minister stated that the matter will be investigated and strong action will be taken to set a good example for others.
“This is a Hindustani university. The Taliban (an Afghan militia group) is not present. This is an attempt to pollute the environment “Mr Raza, the minister of state for minority welfare, Muslim Waqf, and Haj, made the remarks. AMU officials did not respond to requests for comment.
Kalyan Singh, a BJP stalwart, died on Saturday night in Lucknow after a protracted illness. On December 6, 1992, he was the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh when the Babri Mosque was demolished.
Singh was among the 32 people acquitted in the demolition case in September 2020, along with BJP leaders LK Advani and M M Joshi.
The 89-year-old former chief minister of Uttar Pradesh was born in the Aligarh area.
