At a meeting on Sunday, Sivakumar accused Tamil Nadu BJP youth wing leader Vinoj B Selvam of confusing students with false propaganda and opposing welfare schemes brought by the central government with a hidden agenda, thereby passing a resolution against the actor. Here there is a diffferent kind of education for the poor and different kind of education for the rich. He told that the option to determine eligibility in a society where there are different educational opportunities is against social justice.
In a statement, Surya said that in a country like India where there are many different languages, cultures and cultural differences, education must be a state right and all political parties must work together on the principle of ‘education is the right of the state’. It is essential to inform the government about concerns about exams like NEET. Otherwise such public examinations will ruin the future of our children. The NEET Medical Entrance Test is against students in government schools and marginalized students.
Surya spoke at the 40th anniversary celebrations of the Sivakumar Education Foundation. Then he speaks 3 languages imposed at the age of three. How first generation students are going to deal with this. This will definitely be imposed if everyone is quiet. Therefore, teachers, parents, educators and students should all come together and shout out for suggestions and changes on the new education policy.
Tamil Nadu has strong opposition to National Eligibility and Entrance Test or NEET, which was recommended in 2013 and implemented in 2016. Following the intervention of the Supreme Court, NEET was made the only entrance examination for all medical and dental courses in the country in 2017 by public and private colleges. The NEET scope was further extended in 2020 to include enrollment for AIMS and Zimmer MPBS programs in the country.
