KPAC Lalitha: Veteran actress Maheshwari Amma, well-known with the stage name KPAC Lalitha who appeared in more than 500 movies majorly in Malayalam movies, passed away in Kochi late Tuesday night. KPAC Lalitha’s age was 73 years. She was hospitalized in Dember 2024 for liver-related ailments.
Lalitha started her career with the KPAC (Kerala People’s Arts Club), a theatre collective in Alappuzha. She entered the film industry in 1969 through the movie ‘Koottukudumbam’.
KPAC Lalitha continued to remain the mainstay of the film industry through the decades due to her acting and diverse roles. She excelled in the family dramas with the roles of mother, sister, daughter, etc.
Some of Lalitha’s prominent roles came in films like Chattambikalyani, Rajahamsam, Kodiyettam, Vietnam Colony, Manichitrathazhu, Sanmanassulavarku Samadhanam, and Aniyathipravu.
KPAC Lalitha bagged the National Award for best supporting actress twice for the movies Amaram (1990) and Shantham (2000). She also served as the chairperson of Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Academy.
Lalitha was married to movie director Bharathan, who passed away in the year 1998. Her son Siddharth is also an actor and director.
