Yediyurappa’s Resignation: BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) leader B.S. Yediyurappa tendered his resignation as the Chief Minister of Karnataka, on Monday.
After putting in his papers, Yediyurappa said, “No one is pressurized me to resign. I did it on my own so that someone else can take over as Chief Minister. I will work to bring the BJP government back in power in the next election.”
The leader has thanked the top brass of BJP for allowing him to succeed as the Karnataka CM.
The reasons that were factored the Yediyurappa’s resignation are
Brewing Dissent
So many MLAs of BJP went against the 78-year-old CM. Firstly, BJP MLA Basanagouda Patil Yatnal said that in the next elections, the party can’t have Yediyurappa as the CM. To keep BJP alive in the state, the CM has to be changed.
State tourism minister CP Yogeshwara and Huballi-Dharwad MLA Arvind Bellad have also raised their voices against the Yediyurappa.
A sort of internal rebellion from former CM Sadananda Gowda has also been faced by the Yediyurappa.
Corruption Allegations
He was accused of being involved in the illegal allotment of 24 acres of government land to private individuals. This April, the Supreme Court put a stay on the criminal proceedings against him in the case related to the illegal land de-notification.
Allegations of interference with governance were also leveled against Yediyurappa’s sons and relatives.
Growing Age
Within the BJP itself, so many leaders have emphasized the need for the young leader for the next assembly elections. After toppling the Congress-JD(S) coalition government, the Yediyurappa government had come to power.
State of Education
Education is one of the most important sectors. The Karnataka’s Education Minister, Suresh Kumar had admitted that the state has failed in regulating the school fees despite the previous Congress government passing an order in May 2018.
Ineffective Handling of Crisis
The CM’s perceived mishandling of the Covid-19 situation is also lead to the resignation.
