World Science Day for Peace and Development is observed every year since 2002 on 10th November. This day is dedicated to the importance of science in keeping the fabric of society. The importance was rejuvenated in the pandemic. The Covid-19 pandemic fuelled the importance of this day.
World Science Day for Peace and Development: History
This is first started at the World Conference on Science in Budapest in 1999. The use of scientific knowledge to attain humanistic and materialistic goals came under the spotlight.
Since its proclamation by UNESCO in the year 2001, this day has triggered multiple programs and projects that led to favorable results. Finally, on 10th November 2002, the day was celebrated worldwide and included participants from all kinds of professions and organizations.
Significance
The observance of World Science Day commemorates the journey that has been covered and the path forward. The purposes attached to this day are the promotion of methods dipped deep in science and their usage to achieve peace and face the challenges in the journey with commitment and focus.
We all know that science is the foundation of knowledge and information. Therefore, making society more aware is also one of the motives of observing this day.

World Science Day for Peace and Development 2024: Theme
After two decades of acknowledging the World Science Day for Peace and Development, the world was hit by the pandemic and the aim that this day entailed became necessary realizations. As a result, the theme for 2020 was set as Science for and with society in dealing with pandemics.
Now, the world is healing from the pandemic, the theme for this year targets Climate Change. Building climate-ready communities will be celebrated this year to highlight the importance of being climate-conscious.
