Nepal’s Parliament on Wednesday passed the country’s most memorable citizenship amendment bill, which had been talked about for more than two years as it couldn’t produce an agreement among ideological groups.
The bill has been talked about in the House of Representatives starting around 2020. However, it was neglected to be supported because of contrasts among the ideological groups over specific arrangements, in particular, the seven-year hanging tight period for acquiring naturalised citizenship for foreign ladies wedded to Nepali men. In the gathering of the lower house of Parliament or the House of Representatives on Wednesday, Home Minister Bal Krishna Khand introduced Nepal’s most memorable Citizenship Amendment Bill 2024 under the steady gaze of the legislators and said that the bill has been postponed in parliament to correct the Nepal Citizenship Act 2006 and make arrangements for giving citizenship as coordinated by the Constitution.
“There is a large number of individuals who are denied citizenship testimonies even though their folks are residents of Nepal.” The absence of citizenship authentication was further denying them schooling and different offices. “I appeal to assist with establishing a climate to embrace the new bill and for progress to execute the law by planning new regulations,” the Home Minister said. Khand radiated certainty that the new bill would be taken forward in the Upper House of Parliament or the National Assembly on Thursday, during which time condition-wise consultations would start.
Last week, the Nepal government removed the Citizenship Bill from the House of Representatives after the principal resistance of CPN-UML legislators challenged its proposition. In 2018, the then KP Sharma Oli government enlisted the bill at the Parliament Secretariat.
