Weightlifter Mirabai Chanu Wins India’s First Medal At Tokyo Olympics: The Team India contingent has won its first-ever medal at Tokyo 2020 Olympics. This is a huge matter of pride for India. On 23rd July, the Tokyo Games have started. On 24th July, Indian weightlifter Mirabai Chanu won the silver medal.
Engaging in Women’s 49kg weightlifting – clean & jerk event, Chanu lifted 84, 87 while 89 was declared for third. But Chanu could not succeed in the final attempt.
In the Snath event, Mirabai Chanu finished 2nd. The Clear & Jerk event has been Chanu’s forte, as she holding a world record. Unfortunately, this time, she fell behind.
In the first and second attempts of Clean & Jerk, Chanu lifted 110kg and 115kg successfully. The country is feeling proud of her for opening the account for the Indian contingent with a silver medal. From all the corners, the wishes are pouring in for her achievement.
Chanu has become the second Indian weightlifter to claim an Olympic medal, with this win. She joins Karnam Malleswari, who had bagged bronze in the 69kg category at the Sydney Games 2000.
