Pegasus case .. Stop discussing on websites .. Trust the court .. Chief Justice
New Delhi: The Supreme Court Chief Justice NV Ramana today said that the petitioners should stop discussing on social media in the case related to the Pegasus hacking allegations and have faith in the Supreme Court and the court proceedings.
Pegasus hacking allegations have taken Indian politics by storm. Congress MP Rahul Gandhi, political adviser Prashant Kishore, various journalists, a former Supreme Court judge and many other prominent celebrities and political leaders have been accused of being hacked by Pegasus.
In this situation various petitions have been filed in the Supreme Court regarding the Pegasus affair. The case has been filed with various demands, including that the SIT should conduct an inquiry.
Investigation
The case is being heard in the Supreme Court by Chief Justice NV Ramana, Justices Vinith Charan and Surya Kant. The first phase of the investigation took place last week and the second phase was held today
Last week
During the trial last week, the petitioner’s journalist N.S. Ram’s lawyer Kapil Sibal was quoted as saying. He was quoting arguments made in a WhatsApp lawsuit against Pegasus spyware in a California court.
Spy
But there are no details about the spying on Indian journalists. Judge Ramana, who had criticized this in the last hearing, had said that there was nothing about the espionage activities in India in the California case. It was in this context that Kapil Sibal spoke on the issue during today’s hearing.
California
He had mentioned that my petitioner (N. Rama) was being teased on the internet by some people due to the arguments put forward by the Chief Justice regarding the California case. Responding to this, Chief Justice NV Ramana gave some advice. Judge Ramana said there was no need to discuss the case unnecessarily on social media.
Chief Justice Ramana
As Chief Justice Ramana speaks today, I would like to say one thing to lawyers like Mr. Shyam Diwan, Kapil Sibal, Siu Singh, Meenakshi Arora, Rakesh Dwivedi. You have the right to talk about anything on social websites. You can express your opinion. But it would not be right to take the case of Pegasus to the Supreme Court and debate it alone on the Internet.
May be discussed in the Supreme Court
If you want to discuss something you can discuss it in the Supreme Court. If you have something to say you can file an affidavit about it. It is not necessary to leave the consultation alone on the Internet, he noted. When Kapil Sibal said that he was teasing N. Rama, Judge Ramana gave this advice.
Hope
Also, trust the court. We will fully investigate the case. Keep your faith in the judiciary. Unnecessary discussion can be avoided on social websites. We are not opposed to such discussions. But it would not be right for the petitioners to discuss it outside while the case is going on here, Judge Ramana said.
Kapil Sibal
I highly respect you, Chief Justice, who looked at Kapil Sibal and said alone during the trial. You have been a senior and a minister. I expect it to happen decently. If you want to ask anything regarding this you can let us know. He said that we are here to hear everyone’s opinion.
Monday
Accepting this, Kapil Sibal said that the judges were right and that none of the petitioner’s parties would be right to discuss the case on social media. Following this, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta demanded that the petitioners be given time till Friday to read the petitions in full in this case.
The Chief Justice replied that I could not come on Friday because I had some other work to do. Chief Justice NV Ramana said the case would be heard on Monday.
