A petition was filed today in the Bihar town of Muzaffarpur against Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, following his notorious “Abba Jaan” statement during one of his rallies earlier this year.
In a plea filed in the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Muzaffarpur, Tamanna Hashmi, a local social activist, alleged that the BJP leader’s words were insulting to the Muslim community, to which he belonged.
At a Kushinagar event on Sunday, Yogi Adityanath reportedly stated that it was only after his election to the state’s top office in 2017 that the public distribution system became effective in the state, where rations meant for the poor were allegedly devoured by “those who say Abba Jaan” (a term used by Muslims to address their fathers), according to reports.
To be tried under the IPC provisions relating to religious emotions, Tamanna Hashmi, a litigator who has filed cases against numerous politicians in the past, has urged that Yogi Adityanath be tried under such parts.
