Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot met with the party’s central leaders in Delhi today to discuss the long-delayed issue of including Sachin Pilot supporters in the state cabinet. According to sources, the Congress high command wants the reshuffle to happen as soon as possible so that Mr Pilot’s supporters can be accommodated.
Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Congress general secretary KC Venugopal, and Ajay Maken, party in-charge for Rajas were all present at today’s event. . Mr Gandhi, on the other hand, failed to appear. According to sources, the discussion focused on cabinet reshuffles and appointments in state corporations, which Mr Gehlot has been putting off for more than a year.
Last year, Mr Pilot rebelled alongside 18 loyalists, camping out in Delhi with supporters demanding a larger role in the government.
After more than a month, his meeting with Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra ended the bitter standoff.
Mr Pilot, who is still interested in the top job in Rajasthan, met with the younger Gandhis in September this year, who are concerned about a change in state leadership. The Gandhis, according to reports, want him to become governor of Gujarat before the state’s elections next year. Mr Pilot appears to be unqualified for the position.
