Andhra minister Nimmala Ramanaidu releases water to Krishna Delta
On Wednesday, Ramanaidu opened the Krishna Delta at the Prakasam Barrage’s Eastern Delta Head Regulator. “Effective management of water resources can create wealth on a large scale, benefiting all sections of society and leading to the prosperity of the State,” he stated in a speech on the occasion.
With forethought, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu carried out the Pattiseema lift irrigation project, which not only slaked the thirst of 30–40 lakh people but also drew Godavari water and supplied it to almost 13 lakh acres in the Krishna delta.
Pattiseema, Tadipudi, Purushothapatnam, and Pushkara lift irrigation schemes—all of which the former YSRC regime disregarded—are now being developed.
Pattiseema Krishna Delta
For the Krishna delta, about 6,500 cusecs of water are being extracted from Pattiseema. In order to relieve the people’s hunger, he added that the water release would allow for the irrigation of 7,38,000 acres of land in the eastern delta and the filling of tanks in 11 Assembly constituencies in the districts of NTR, Krishna, and Eluru. Kolusu Parthasarathy, the Minister of Housing, Information, and Public Relations, emphasized the value of drains in addition to irrigation canals for the growth of the agricultural sector. She noted that the people living in the Krishna delta were facing severe issues as a result of the previous YSRC regime’s negligent maintenance of the canals. He stated that whereas the TDP spent Rs 4,000 crore, the previous government did not even invest Rs 50 crore for the Chintalapudi lift irrigation scheme, which is vital for upland areas of Nuzvid, Mylavaram and Tiruvuru.
In addition to providing irrigation water for Kharif crops, Minister for Mines and Geology Kollu Ravindra conveyed his appreciation for resolving the drinking water issue in the Krishna Delta.
There were representatives of the people, ryot leaders, irrigation advisor M Venkateswara Rao, and irrigation engineer-in-chief C Narayana Reddy in attendance.
1,500 cusecs released
1,500 cusecs of water from the Prakasam Barrage were discharged by irrigation officials via the Krishna Eastern Main Canal. 900 cusecs of water were discharged into the Ryves Canal, 300 cusecs into the Eluru Canal, and 300 cusecs into the Bandar Canal, according to irrigation SE TJH Prasad Babu.
