Avi Barot, a member of the Saurashtra Ranji Trophy-winning team, died of a cardiac arrest during the 2019-20 season.
Avi Barot, a former India Under-19 captain and member of the Ranji Trophy-winning team, died at the age of 29 during the 2019-20 season. The player, who had previously represented Haryana and Gujarat, died on Friday after falling ill and being admitted to a hospital. His mother and wife, who are expecting their first child, both survived his illness and are still alive today. “Avi was alone at home when he became ill. He died in the ambulance on the way to the hospital. He was a joy to be around as a child, and when I discovered his talent, I brought him to Saurashtra to begin his first-class career “Jaydev Shah, President of the SCA, told PTI.
“Avi’s father died when he was just 42 years old.” He has no other relatives besides his mother and pregnant wife. “It will take me a long time to accept this tragedy,” Shah says.
Last week, the young cricketer competed in a local tournament. He batted with his right hand and was capable of bowling off-breaks.
“I still can’t believe it. At the age of 29, he came to play in the Jeevan Trophy, a state-level tournament, last week. We told him to slow down because he was scoring runs, and I told him to take it easy because we needed to win “Shah remembered him saying.
It’s safe to say that Barot has played a significant role in the success of the Indian national team. During his playing career, he amassed 1,547 first-class cricket runs, 1030 list-A cricket runs, and 717 T20 cricket runs as a wicket-keeper batsman.
The Saurashtra Cricket Association issued a statement following Avi Barot’s untimely and tragic death, saying, “Everyone at the Saurashtra Cricket Association is shocked and saddened.”
He represented Saurashtra in 21 Ranji Trophy games, 17 List A games, and 11 domestic T20 matches during his career.
Barot captained India’s U-19 team in 2011 and scored 122 runs in 53 balls against Goa earlier this year in a Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy match.
“Finding out about Avi’s tragic death is both shocking and heartbreaking.” He was a fantastic cricketer as well as a fantastic teammate. Shah stated that he “performed admirably” in his recent domestic matches.
