With 2204 runs at an average of 46.89 in 56 innings, Babar Azam is the 10th highest run scorer in men’s T20 international cricket.
Pakistan’s captain, Babar Azam, is by far the best batsman to emerge from Asia in recent memory. He’s a tyrant in all formats, but it was his meteoric rise in Twenty20 cricket that first made him a household name. Babar overtook Chris Gayle and Virat Kohli on Sunday to become the leading run scorer in cricket’s shortest format. With an unbeaten 59 in Pakistan’s premier domestic T20 tournament, the National T20 Cup, the stylish top order batsman helped Central Punjab defeat Southern Punjab by 7 wickets. As a result, Babar became the fastest man in men’s T20 cricket history to score 7000 runs.
Chris Gayle of the West Indies previously held the record for the fastest batter to score 7000 runs in T20s, doing so in just 186 innings. Gayle needed 192 innings to reach the century mark. Virat Kohli of India, who needed 212 innings to reach the milestone, is now third on the list. Virat Kohli recently became the first Indian T20 cricket batsman to surpass 10,000 runs. This happened during the current Indian Premier League.
Babar is the third Pakistani batsman to reach 7000 runs in T20 cricket, following Shoaib Malik and Mohammad Hafeez.
He’ll want to be in top shape and form when Pakistan takes on archrival India in the ICC T20 World Cup opener on October 24.
In 56 innings, he has 2204 runs at an average of 46.89 and is currently ranked 10th among men’s T20 international run scorers.
