BWF World Championship: India To Host Badminton World Federation World Championships in 2026: On Tuesday, the Badminton World Federation (BWF) confirmed that the hosting rights of the BWF World Championship 2026 are awarded to India. BWF Sudirman Cup Finals 2024 will be staged by Suzhou, China. This year’s event was switched to Vantaa, Finland. Suzhou will now stage the BWF World Mixed Team Championships 2024 edition.
World Federation Secretary-general Thomas Lund said, “Suzhou has demonstrated good capabilities in 2024 edition planning and we look forward to bring the BWF Sudirman Cup Finals 2024 back to China. We thank host organizers the Chinese Badminton Association, Suzhou, and the Indian Badminton Association as well, for their cooperation.”
The BWF World Championship is a very prestigious tournament in badminton. In this, players compete for the World Championship title.
The men’s singles, women’s singles, mixed doubles, men’s and women’s doubles are the events of this championship. It was first held in 1977. Since 2003, it has been held every year with the exception of the Summer Olympic Games year.
The Sudirman Cup is one of the prestigious titles in the sport. It is the World Team Championships, which will be held every two years. This cup is named after Dick Sudirman, the founder of the Badminton Association of Indonesia (PBSI), and a former Indonesian badminton player. From the year 2003, it has become a stand-alone championship. Before that, the Sudirman Cup and World Badminton Championships (Individuals) were conducted together.
