The article will discuss his political career, his academic background and his controversial racist diatribes.
Biography
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has chosen Bandi Sanjay to be the State President of Telangana, a position he will hold until March 2020. After all, he is the state’s most well-known politician. In fact, he is one of only four Bharatiya Janata Party Members of Parliament from the state. He is also the president of the BJP’s Telangana unit.
The most obvious reason is because of his ties with the Rastriya Swayamsewak Sangh (RSS). Bandi served as a municipal corporator in Karimnagar and is considered to be the most popular politician in the state.
As a youngster, he was involved in Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh. Later, he got active in the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad and the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha. Eventually, he joined the BJP. Despite this, he was unable to make it to the Assembly.
Bandi’s elevation to the position of state president was a watershed moment in BJP’s history in Telangana. This was the first time the party had four MPs from the state. However, despite the impressive numbers, Bandi’s election wasn’t quite as sweeping as some hoped. His parliamentary victory in Karimnagar was considered a surprise. Interestingly, his 89,508 win was the largest margin for a BJP candidate in Telangana.
During his tenure as state president, Bandi was able to improve the party’s fortunes. Besides, he was able to woo the youth, the party’s largest voting bloc.
Sanjay also ran for the state assembly in both 2014 and 2018. He failed to get elected to either position. Having said that, he secured a respectable 66,009 votes in the Karimnagar Assembly segment. A few months later, he contested against the incumbent, B Vinod Kumar of the Telangana Rashtra Samiti. But he was beaten by the former in the locals.
It’s no secret that Sanjay is passionate about politics and has a large fan base in the state. However, his election to the Lok Sabha was a surprising feat. It’s also no surprise that he has a few snags, including six convictions.
Nevertheless, he was able to ride the fad of Narendra Modi and the BJP to the top of the polls. His statewide campaign – which he has aptly called the Praja Sangrama Yatra – earned him a fair amount of public attention.
Academic background
Bandi Sanjay, the Bharatiya Janata Party President in Telangana, was a surprise candidate for the post. He was not a well-known figure outside the party. But the BJP high command decided to project him as the face of the party in Telangana.
Bandi was one of the four Bharatiya Janata Party MPs from Telangana. The state unit of the party has a strong Hindutva agenda. This was evident in the party’s performance in the two general elections in the region.
A young leader from RSS background, Bandi was a member of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh. In addition, he was involved in the state’s ABVP student wing.
Sanjay also studied at Madhurai Kamaraj University in Tamil Nadu. At the end of his studies, he earned a Master of Arts.
Bandi became involved with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Samgh as a youth. As a municipal corporator, he served in Karimnagar from 2005 to 2014. Eventually, he was elected to the Lok Sabha.
He is a staunch supporter of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his government. Prime Minister Modi praised him for the “incredible response” of the people to the Praja Sangram Yatra. However, there were many who were not happy with his “unilateral” style of campaigning.
Bandi was a prominent member of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sagh as a youth. His rise to prominence was attributed to his close ties with the Sangh Parivar.
After being appointed as the state president, Bandi strengthened the BJP. However, he will have to overcome challenges in the 2024 Assembly elections. He has to convince the voters that he can lead the party to victory.
In addition to his position as the leader of the Telangana BJP, Bandi is a board member of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences. Additionally, he is a passionate blogger. Moreover, he has over 230k followers on Instagram.
With the party having a thorn in its flesh in Telangana, Bandi’s performance will be critical. He will have to fight back to free the state from the Farmhouse family dynasty.
The BJP high command saw a need for a fresh face in the state. They hoped that Bandi would be able to compete with KCR.
Political career
Bandi Sanjay Kumar is an Indian politician, who was elected as a Member of Parliament (MP) in the 17th Lok Sabha elections in the Telangana district of Karimnagar. He is a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party. His election was seen as a surprise due to the lack of strength in the BJP.
The Bharatiya Janata Party’s high command decided to project Bandi as a face for Telangana. This was done in order to rebuild the party’s leadership and re-invent the party’s image. It is also seen as a move to revive the regional leadership culture of parties like the Telangana Rashtra Samithi.
After the Telangana state assembly election of 2018, he was appointed as the State President of the BJP. During this time, he led the Praja Sangrama Yatra, which sought to build confidence among the people of the state to protect the democracy.
Earlier, Bandi had contested for the Karimnagar Assembly segment in 2018. In the elections, he secured 66,009 votes. That was a huge victory for the BJP.
Earlier, he was a municipal corporator of Karimnagar’s 48th division. He also served as a town secretary. Afterwards, he contested for the Kaaarimnagar constituency in the Lok Sabha in 2019. He lost the election to the Telangana Rashtra Samithi’s candidate Gangula Kamalakar.
Besides, Bandi was also a prominent member of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh. Similarly, he had been active in the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad. Lastly, he was an executive member of the RSS.
Despite his political success, he is still a thorn in the flesh of the ruling TRS. A few of his party colleagues have been critical of his “unilateral” style of politics. Some have complained that he has been insensitive to people’s concerns.
On Sunday night, Bandi was detained by the police in Telangana. While he is an influential figure, he also has six convictions. As a result, he has a 13,41,800 Rupees financial liability.
Since his entry into the political arena, he has become one of the most active politicians in Telangana. He continues to lead yatras against KCR.
Racist diatribes
Amidst a heated battle for the parliamentary seat of Telangana, Bandi Sanjay Kumar, the Telangana unit head of the Telugu Rashtra Samithi (TRS) has been targeted by racist diatribes. Though he has been receiving some support from his political adversaries, D. Arvind, a firebrand MP of the ruling party has criticised him. The TRS’s fiery speaker has also been accused of using foul language.
The Telangana government had been led by Chief Minister KCR who was famous for his political acumen, linguistic skills and gift of gab. He used anecdotes, Ramayana stories and Telangana dialect in his speeches. However, many sidelined fighters of the ruling party blamed him for teaching them foul language. They said that he should have been more prudent and sober. Interestingly, his predecessor N Uttam Kumar Reddy was also a well-behaved politician.
While it is true that the first-rung leaders of the TRS used vulgar language in their campaign speeches and speeches against opponents, it was the second-rung TRS leaders who were more guilty of such vulgarity. As such, it is no wonder that the political cacophony in Telangana pushed the minimum decency expected from leaders to a whole new level.
