Dussehra: Dussehra, the festival that signifies the triumph of good over evil will be celebrated on 5th October this year. This auspicious occasion holds great importance in Hindu culture. Also known as Vijayadashami, the festival is celebrated with a lot of fervor, on the tenth day during the month of Ashwin, culminating in the nine-day festivities of the Navratri festival.
Dussehra marks the victory of Lord Ram over Ravana as well as the victory of Maa Durga over the demon Mahishasur.

Dussehra or Vijayadasami is observed on the Shukla Paksha Dashmi during the Ashwin month of Hindu calendar. Dussehra 2022 date is October 5.
Dussehra Significance
Every year Dussehra is celebrated on the tenth day of Ashwin month of the Hindu calendar. The name Dussehra originates from the Sanskrit words Dasha (ten) and Hara (defeat). It was also the day when Lord Ram defeated Ravan.
Vijayadashami Rituals and celebrations
People perform a theatrical enactment of the life story of Lord Ram which is referred to as Ramleela. During the night of the festival, massive dummies of Ravan which are stuffed with firecrackers are set to fire on the open grounds.
In Gujarat, people celebrate the Dussehra festival by doing the Garba which is the famous folk dance.
In West Bengal, people observe the Durga Puja for nine days, and on Vijayadasami day, they perform the Visarjan of the idol of Goddess Durga in the river.
In the southern parts of India, married women visit each other’s houses and give gifts like coconut and betel nuts. They praise three major forms of the goddess – Lakshmi, Saraswati, and Durga.
