Videos of the planes practicing landings on the expressway have gone viral on social media.
Tomorrow, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will fly in an Air Force C-130J Super Hercules to mark the official opening of Uttar Pradesh’s 340-kilometer-long Purvanchal Expressway. Landing practise and an air show were taking place as former Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav accused the ruling BJP of stealing his work.
Social media videos showed planes practicing landings on the expressway. A dry-run video released on Sunday showed a Mirage 2000, an AN-32 turboprop, and a Sukhoi-30 landing on the highway about 100 kilometers from Lucknow, the state capital. In videos, the C-130J Super Hercules that will transport the Prime Minister to the location can also be seen landing on a concrete airstrip in the Sultanpur district, which is intended to facilitate Air Force jet landings and take-offs during emergencies.
PM Modi is scheduled to arrive at 1.30 p.m. and speak at a public rally. On the 3.2 km airstrip, he will see a Mirage 2000 landing and a servicing demonstration an hour later. An AN-32 transport plane will land the troops on the airstrip. Three Kiran Mk2s will then fly overhead, flanked by two Sukhoi 30 jets.
According to reports, some expressways in the country are designated for emergency landings for the Air Force, a concept that originated in Germany during World War II.
In September, Union Ministers Rajnath Singh and Nitin Gadkari dedicated an emergency landing strip on National Highway 925 in Rajasthan’s Barmer.
The (Purvanchal) expressway has six lanes and has the potential to expand to eight lanes in the future. According to a statement from the Prime Minister’s office, the Purvanchal Expressway “will boost the economic development of the eastern part of Uttar Pradesh, particularly the districts of Lucknow, Barabanki, Amethi, Ayodhya, Sultanpur, Ambedkar Nagar, Azamgarh, Mau, and Ghazipur.”
Today, Samajwadi Party Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav slammed the BJP government, claiming that the project’s foundation stone was laid in December 2016 while he was Chief Minister.
The BJP, according to the Samajwadi Party, is simply launching a project that they devised. “They are celebrating the completion of an expressway constructed by the SP government.” “They changed the expressway’s name from the Samajwadi Purvanchal expressway to simply the ‘Purvanchal expressway,’ and the expressway’s quality standards have been compromised,” Mr Yadav said today at a press conference in Lucknow.
“Those who have driven on the Agra-Lucknow expressway know that at (100 km/h), your tea will not spill.” Those who have driven on the Purvanchal expressway, on the other hand, will be familiar with the stomach cramps it causes. ‘Ram Ram Japna,’ says the BJP’s campaign slogan. “To date, the SP government has built all of the projects that have been inaugurated,” he added.
According to UP government sources, Prime Minister Modi laid the foundation stone for the project in eastern UP’s Azamgarh in July 2018, and construction work was completed during Yogi Adityanath’s tenure as Chief Minister and on time, despite roadblocks caused by the pandemic.
“In July 2018, the Prime Minister laid the groundwork for this expressway, and we are now in a position where the Prime Minister will inaugurate it.” “This is a prime example of how a ‘double engine’ government operates,” Yogi Adityanath said, referring to rivals’ previous use of the phrase “double engine government.”
