This morning, two passengers at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport were apprehended with 3.7 crores in foreign currency. Their trolley bag had a hidden cavity that held the money. Because it was concealed in such a way that standard baggage scanners could not detect it, according to the official.
They were apprehended after the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence intercepted them (DRI)
The men were on their way to Sharjah and had no proof of ownership or authorization to export the confiscated goods. They had their hard-earned dollars and Saudi riyals stolen from them.
DRI agents used data analytics to seize the currency as part of Operation Cheque Shirts.
Section 110 of the Customs Act of 1962 was used to recoup the foreign currency lost by these passengers. More research is being conducted.
