Gudi Padwa 2024: The festival of Gudi Padwa has a significant place in the lives of people who are native of Goa and Maharashtra. This year, Gudi Padwa 2024 date is 2nd April. According to the Hindu calendar, Gudi Padwa is celebrated on the first day of the Chaitra month, which symbolizes the arrival of the spring and also marks the starting of the new year for Maharashtrian and Konkan region Hindus.
On this day, people clean their houses and decorate them with mango leaves and rangolis. Besides this, the traditional Gudi flags are hoisted on the terrace or outside of the houses.
Gudi flag is made up of a bright colorful cloth tied at the top of a long bamboo stick with mango and neem leaves. There is a garland of sugar candy also tied to a top. It is further capped with a copper, silver, or bronze pot arranged in an inverted manner.
People believe that Gudi will help to get rid of evil, and invites good luck and prosperity into the house.

The word Gudi Padwa is a combination of two words, Gudi means the flag whereas Padwa comes from the Sanskrit word Pratipada, which refers to the first day of the lunar fortnight.
Gudi Padwa marks the arrival of the spring season. As per the Hindu scriptures, on this day Lord Brahma created the universe. According to some legends, this day commemorates the coronation of Lord Ram after his return to Ayodhya along with his wife Sita and brother Laxman after the exile of 14 years.
