International Women’s Day is celebrated across the world every year on 8th March. This day commemorates the achievements of women and their existence.
International Women’s Day: History & Significance
The Socialist Party of America first started National Women’s Day on 28th February 1909 in New York. Later in 1910, taking inspiration from the American socialists, German delegates proposed the idea of Women’s day but they did not declare a specific date.
The United Nations started celebrating women’s day in 1975 and 1977. The United Nations General Assembly proclaimed 8th March as International Women’s Day for women’s rights and world peace.
This day holds significance because the world celebrates the achievements of women on this day, raises awareness about the equality of women, and accelerates gender parity.
