The Indian telecom market underwent a major transformation in September, with Reliance Jio continuing to dominate the customer base. But unexpectedly, Geo lost nearly 2 crore customers in September.
Airtel and Vodafone Idea have decided to increase their telecom service charges by 15 to 25 per cent, as telecom companies have a four-year moratorium on arrears.

Reliance Jio
Reliance Jio lost about 19 million or 1.9 crore wireless customers in September alone. As a result, Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Jio has reduced its total customer base to 424.83 million.
Airtel – Vodafone Idea
Bharti Airtel, meanwhile, has added 2.7 lakh new wireless customers to its network. This brings Airtel’s total customer base to 354.46 million. And Vodafone Idea lost 10.7 lakh customers and gained only 269.99 million customers.
20.7 million customers

Average income
But at the same time Reliance Jio increased the average per capita income (ARPU) of its customers from Rs 138 to Rs 144 as planned. This was to the advantage of Reliance Jio. In September, Geo lost more rural and downtown customers than city customers.

Jio dominates

Vodafone Idea
Vodafone Idea lost 3.3 million customers in July 2024 to 238 million. This reduced the total number of active customers to 24.06 percent.
Continuous decline
Most importantly, Vodafone Idea’s customer base has been steadily declining for 32 months.
