Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine Could Cause Paralysis – FDA: On Monday, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued a warning statement stating that Johnson & Johnson COVID vaccine could cause rare neurological complications in some cases.
The FDA stated that it was not sure yet whether this vaccine can cause the condition, but it found an increase in reports showing the paralyzing condition, which is called Guillain-Barre syndrome.
As per CNN, in a statement, FDA said, “Today, the FDA is announcing revisions to the fact sheets of the vaccine provider and recipient for the J & J (Janssen) Covid-19 vaccine and observed increased risk of the Guillain-Barre Syndrome after the vaccination.”
FDA also informed that no such issue is found in the Moderna and Pfizer-BioNTech covid vaccines.
The US FDA further added that in the 12.8 million Janssen vaccines administered, around 100 GBS cases had been registered with the US Vaccine Adverse reporting system.
A recent update from the FDA says, “Guillain Barre syndrome is a neurological disorder, in which the nerve cells get damaged by the immune system of the body resulting in muscle weakness and sometimes paralysis. This syndrome has been found in some people who have taken the Johnson and Johson covid vaccine.”
If any GBS symptoms are found like tingling or weakness in the legs and arms arise then immediately people have to seek medical attention.
Some other symptoms of this syndrome are difficulty in speaking, walking, swallowing, or chewing, double vision, and bladder control problems.
The FDA and US Center for Disease Control had put a pause on the usage of the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine earlier this year, after finding rare blood clotting complications in some cases. After confirming the low risks, again stated the J & J vaccine using.
