Karnataka Hijab Row: Continuing to hearing on the hijab row, on Wednesday, the Karnataka High Court referred the case to a larger bench. Earlier, appearing for Karnataka, Advocate General Prabhuling Navadagi told High Court that students must attend class by following the college dress code.
On Wednesday, the Karnataka High Court resumed the hearing of petitions, filed by students of Government Pre University College, Udupi, challenging the Hijab ban inside classrooms.
Advocate General also said CDC (College Development Committee) can decide the dress code for that college.
Earlier, Justice Krishan Dixit observed that he felt this matter requires consideration of the larger bench.
The judge said he went through the citations that were submitted yesterday. On Tuesday, Justice Dixit asked the students and the general public to avoid taking to the streets.
The Karnataka High Court had asked the students to maintain peace. The Muslim girl students had filed the petitions seeking a declaration from the High Court that they have a “fundamental right to practice essential religious practices as per Islamic faith”.
