He was educated at St.Bede’s Angalo Indian higher school in Chennai, where karthi was his schoolmate. He is above average student in his schooling.He completed his bachelor degree in commerce from Loyala college in Chennai.
His acting career:
At the age four, he acted in telugu film Needa in 1979 directed by Dasari Narayana Rao.
After that he acted in the telugu film Poratam in 1983 at Vauhini Studios. After that, director Kodi Rama Krishna suggested Krishna sir. To make Mahesh to act in films.
Firstly Mahesh Babu, was terrified to act in this film.
After that Krishna sir (Mahesh Babu’s father) convinced him to act in this film. Later Mahesh agreed and started his career as actor. He also act as child characters in Shankharam, Bazara,Rowdy, Mugguru Monagallu and, Gudachari117. After that he played dual role in Koduku Diddina Kapuram in 1989.

In 2000, he acted in Vamsi film during this movie shooting, Namratha fell in love with Mahesh Babu. Later one day Namratha proposed to mahesh on lovers day and he accepted her proposal. Both are on dating, after that five years relationship mahesh convince his family and married her at 2005 and this couple was blessed with baby boy, Gautham Gattamaneni in 2006 and baby girl Sithara in 2012.
