What The Study Says
As per the recent study published in Frontlines in Nutrition, the benefits of consuming almonds twice a day in maintaining healthy levels of cholesterol and blood sugar were witnessed.
This study was conducted on a total of 275 participants of which 216 are female and 59 are male. In this trial, these persons ate 56 gms (340 calories) of unroasted almonds twice a day for three months. For the same time frame, the group consumed 340 calories in some other food forms.
Dr. Jagmeet Madan, Nutritionist, principal investigator, Principal & Professor at Sir Vithaldis Thackersey College of Home Science, Mumbai said, “Lifestyle changes including exercise and improved nutrition targeted at adults and teens have the potential in halting the prediabetics progression to Type-2 diabetes. This study results show that the change can be a minor one – including almonds can make a big difference.”
He further added that the results of this study are showing improvement of LDL-cholesterol levels and reduction in the HbA1c levels by taking almonds for just 12 weeks.
