Stocks fell on Thursday as geopolitical tensions increased after the Kremlin claimed separatists in eastern Ukraine had requested help from President Vladimir Putin, a move that might lead to Russian force deployments.
Japan, South Korea, and Australia all saw their stock markets fall. Following a technological slide that pulled the S&P 500 further into a correction, US futures fell. Treasuries, currency, and gold have all risen in value.
As of 7:15 a.m., the Singapore-traded SGX Nifty, a leading indicator of the performance of India’s Nifty 50 Index, had fallen 1.64 percent to 16,815 points.
Traders pushed oil higher, as bitcoin fell below $37,000.
