Puri To Hold Lord Jagannath’s Rath Yatra Without Devotees Today – Check The Info: The holy town of Puri, Odisha is holding the Lord Jagannath’s Rath Yatra today with no devotees because of the Covid-19 crisis. The Puri Rath Yatra is an annual ritual. Usually, it attracts a big crowd. However, this time, the state government has banned the participation of people in this big festival. Last year also, public participation was avoided in this rath yatra, due to the coronavirus.
SJTA (Shree Jagannath Temple Administration) said that the chariots of Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra, and Devi Subhadra named Nandighosh, Taladwaja, and Darpadalan respectively, are ready.
Measures Taken To Avoid Gathering
Up to 13th July, 8 pm, a curfew has been imposed in Puri town by the state government. This curfew imposition is to avoid congregation. All visitors are directed by the district administration of Puri, to vacate hotels, guest houses, and lodges.
As per Ajaya Jena, the administrator of Puri Jagannath Temple, to pull the chariots, servitors who test negative for COVID-19 will only be allowed.
The Odisha government has urged people to watch Rath Yatra’s broadcast instead of visiting Puri.
Security heightened in Puri
Around 65 platoons (1 platoon = 30 personnel) are deployed in Puri town. The rooftop view of the festival is also banned by the state government. Some security personnel has been posted on the building’s terraces, which are adjacent to the grand road. To prevent the gathering, a day before the mega festival, all the entry and exit points of the Puri town were sealed.
