Rishi Panchami Story
The legend goes that there was a brahmin named Uttank, who lived with his wife Sushila. Their daughter was a widow and lived with her parents. One day, the parents found their daughter’s body covered with ants, which left them worried. Then, they called a sage to help them recover their daughter. Brahmin asked the sage the reason behind the early widowhood of her daughter and her sufferings as well.
The Rishi said that her suffering is due to her past karmas. He added that in her previous life, she entered Pooja Ghar during her monthly cycle. When the father asked for a solution, the sage suggested the daughter to observe a fast on Rishi Panchami day for purifying her body and soul so that she can be relieved from her present and past sins.
