“I’m a full-time, hands-on Congress President,” he explained. Sonia Gandhi emphasised her leadership role by using farmer protests as an example.
In response to critics, Sonia Gandhi reiterated her position as the “full-time and hands-on Congress President” a day after the ‘G-23,’ which has been calling for an organisational overhaul and the election of “visible and effective leadership” for over a year.
“I have always valued candour,” Gandhi told the Congress Working Committee, the party’s highest decision-making body, adding, “There is no need to communicate with me through the media.” Gandhi was referring to letters released by “G-23″ members, which sparked public spats between leaders of both camps.
I’m a full-time, hands-on President of the United States Congress, unless you mind.” Mrs. Gandhi spoke about her role as a leader on national issues such as farmer protests, pandemic relief efforts, and atrocities committed against vulnerable communities and marginalised groups in her remarks.
“The Prime Minister, as well as Dr. Manmohan Singh and Rahul Gandhi, have been briefed on them” (Gandhi)… I’ve spent the last few months meeting with members of various political parties who share my viewpoints. Our strategy in Parliament has been coordinated as well, with the release of joint statements on national issues.
Mrs. Gandhi believes that the party’s challenges should be discussed in an open and free environment.
She issued a stern warning to the ‘G-23, saying, “… but what should be communicated outside these four walls is the CWC’s collective decision.”
“We have full faith in Sonia Gandhi ji, and nobody questions her leadership,” senior leader Ghulam Nabi Azad, a member of the “G-23,” was quoted during the meeting as saying.
Following today’s CWC meeting, an election schedule was finalised, with the goal of electing a full-time Congress President between August 21 and September 20 of the following year.
Because of the party’s poor performance in previous Assembly elections, G-23 has been calling for structural changes in their comments and letters (and again during the most recent round of voting in five states in April and May, including Bengal, where the party flopped).
She admitted that “the entire organisation desires a revival… but this requires unity and keeping the party’s interests foremost.”
“Self-control and self-discipline are essential.” I’m well aware that I’ve been serving as interim Congress President since the CWC asked me to do so in 2019.” She mentioned that prior to the Covid attack, internal elections were scheduled for June of this year.
More than 57 people gathered in Delhi today to discuss the state of India, including former Union Minister P. Chidambaram, Lok Sabha MP Rahul Gandhi, and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, General Secretary (Charanjit Channi).
There were also a few members of the ‘G-23’ secret society present.
Congress has not met in person since the pandemic and a series of lockdowns.
