Suriya and Kajol were invited among 397 people to join the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. On Wednesday night (IST), it was announced that stars such as Billie Eilish, Jamie Dornan, Dana Walden, and Leonard Maltin were among the stars invited to attend. Suriya’s name was associated with the Oscars after fans hoped that her revolutionary film Jai Bhim would win an Oscar nomination.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, if the invitation is accepted, Suriya, Kajol, and others on the list could vote for nominations and Oscar winners. According to Deadline, there are 71 Oscar nominees and 15 winners among the invitations this year. It also showed that about 44% of women and 37% of the group belonged to unrepresented communities.
Suriya became the first Tamil and South Indian actor to receive a prestigious invitation. In addition to Kajol and Suriya, Billie Eilish and Finneas O’Connell, Ariana DeBose, Troy Kotsur, Paramount boss Brian Robbins, and Disney General Entertainment chef Dana Walden are on the list. Kajol and Suriya have not yet responded to the invitation.
Kajol was last seen in the short film Devi, directed by debutant director Priyanka Banerjee. The film also stars Neha Dhupia, Neena Kulkarni, Shruti Haasan, Sandhya Mhatre, Mukta Barve, Shivani Raghuvanshi, Rama Joshi, and Yashaswini Dayam. He is currently working on Revathi’s upcoming film, Salaam Venky. The film was announced in October 2024. The film was originally called The Last Hurray, but the title of the film was changed when filming began. He is also rumored to play a role in Karan Johar’s Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani.
