Symptoms of the NeoCov variant; A group of Chinese scientists from Wuhan has issued a warning about a new kind of coronavirus known as NeoCoV, which has a high risk of infection and death. The NeoCov virus was identified in South Africa, according to Sputnik research, and it is thought to be connected to the Middle East respiratory disease MERS-COV.
The NeoCov strain, according to scientists in Wuhan, China, has a high mortality and transmission rate.
NeoCov is not a novel variety; it was detected in Middle Eastern nations in 2012 and 2015 and is highly similar to SARS-CoV-2 in humans.
COVID-19 immunizations may not be sufficient to protect people’s immune systems, according to studies.
According to scientists in Wuhan, China, this strain has a high mortality and transmission rate.
Even as the world grapples with SARS-CoV-2 and its variations, scientists in Wuhan, where the virus is thought to have originated, have issued a warning about a new coronavirus strain that may be even deadlier than Covid-19. The ‘Neo-Cov’ strain is linked to MERS-coronavirus, which causes Middle Eastern respiratory disease. Neo-Cov, when combined with the high fatality rate of MERS-coronavirus, is expected to kill one out of every three patients.
A coronavirus identified in animals in South Africa has the potential to infect people and cause severe and transmissible diseases, according to Chinese experts.
NeoCov, a coronavirus that spreads in bats, has been researched for at least ten years. According to recent research published on the bioRxiv website, the virus has a similar enzyme to SARS-CoV-2, namely the ACE2 receptor, which allows it to enter the lungs. However, the NeoCov-specific enzyme is only active in animals.
According to the researchers, a single variation in the virus’s DNA would be enough for it to have the capacity to infect human cells. Furthermore, NeoCov is genetically related to MERS-CoV, the coronavirus that caused the severe epidemic in the Middle East in 2012 and 2015. It killed 35 percent of those who were diagnosed with it.
NeoCoV and its near relative PDF-2180-CoV were reported to be able to enter the body by using specific types of bat angiotensin-converting enzyme2 (ACE2) and human ACE2. The researchers stated that a mutation might lead to the virus being transmitted to human cells.
Scientists from Wuhan University and the Chinese Academy of Sciences’ Institute of Biophysics discovered the stunning discovery. The new work has been uploaded as a preprint on bioRxiv and has not yet been peer-reviewed.
Russian experts at the Vector Russian State Studies Center of Virology and Biotechnology responded to the new study’s findings by stating that they were aware of Chinese research on the NeoCoV coronavirus.
Only bats have been confirmed to be infected with the virus thus far. However, according to research published on the bioRxiv website and cited by Russian news outlet Sputnik, Neo-Cov and its near related PDF-2180-CoV might infect people. According to the report, it is only one mutation away from being able to penetrate the human immune system. However, further study is needed to determine if ‘Neo-Cov’ will have an effect on humans.
Current immunity or antibodies obtained through immunizations or previous Covid-19 infections, according to the study, may not be useful in avoiding NeoCov. This is because NeoCov connects to the ACE2 receptor differently than SARS-CoV-2. While the article has yet to be peer-reviewed, the findings have been recognized by the Russian State Virology and Biotechnology Research Center, which started in a statement last week that more research is needed.
