The Indian Cricket Board (BCCI) announced on Tuesday that the final two games of the ongoing IPL 2024 league phase would be played simultaneously. For the first time in IPL history, matches will be played concurrently on the final day of the group phase. SunRisers Hyderabad and Royal Challengers Bangalore had day games scheduled to begin at 3:30 PM IST, while Delhi Capitals and SunRisers Hyderabad had night games scheduled to begin at 7:30 PM IST. Both games will now kick off at 7:30 p.m. IST.
The BCCI announced in a press release that “the final two league matches before the VIVO IPL 2024 Playoffs will be played concurrently,” a first for the IPL.
Instead of one afternoon match and one evening match, SRH vs MI and RCB vs DC will be played concurrently at 7.30 PM IST (6.00 PM GST) on the final day of the current season’s league stage.
At this point in the tournament, none of the teams are guaranteed a playoff spot. However, after falling to the Kolkata Knight Riders in Sharjah on Tuesday, Rishabh Pant’s Delhi Capitals will have to wait a little longer to qualify for the play-offs.
The Chennai Super Kings, led by MS Dhoni, have a chance to make the playoffs if they defeat SunRisers Hyderabad, who are currently in last place.
