TN Anti-NEET Bill 2024: Tamil Nadu Anti-NEET bill 2024 has been tabled at the State Legislative Assembly on 13th September 2024. On Sunday, Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin announced that NEET is one of the major issues of the country and his government will bring a bill seeking an exemption. The remarks came after the death of a medical aspirant at his home in Salem.
NEET is the All India level entrance examination conducted for undergraduate medical courses. This year, the exam was conducted on 12th September from 2 pm to 5 pm across the country. NEET exam was recommended in 2013. From that time, Tamil Nadu has been in strong opposition to the NEET (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test). The objects and reasons of the bill say, “NEET is not an equitable method of admission”.
Now, the government has tabled TN Anti-NEET Bill 2024 in the assembly. The bill reads that it has been passed to ensure upholding quality, social justice, and equal opportunity to protect all vulnerable students’ communities from being discriminated against and bring them to the mainstream education system. This year, the number of applicants for the NEET has been dropped by 7 %.
AIADMK strongly opposed the NEET examination. TN Former Chief Minister Jayalalitha had strongly appealed to the Union government. After a legal tussle, TN state got one year stay on the examination. So, the AIADMK would likely support TN Anti-NEET Bill 2024 that has been presented in the assembly, today.
