Vat Purnima 2024: Vat Purnima Vrat celebrates on Jyeshtha Purnima and this year it falls on June 14, Tuesday. On this day, married Hindu women observe fast for the long life of their husbands.

The Vat Purnima Vrat Tithi starts at 9.02 pm on June 13 and will end at 5.21 pm on June 14. Most women belonging to Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Southern states of India observes this Vrat.
The auspicious timings for the Vat Purnima Puja are from 9.40 am to 6.32 pm.
Vat Purnima History and Significance
According to the Hindu scriptures, Savitri had tricked Lord Yama (the God of Death) in a way that there is no option for him but to return the life of her husband, Satyawan. Because of this incident, married women started praying for the long life of their husbands.
Vat Purnima Puja Vidhi
The women who observe this fast take the bath in the early morning and wear new clothes. During the Shubh Muhurat of the day, the women perform Puja under a Banyan tree. They place the idols of Savitri and Satyawan and offer fruits, flowers, vermillion, and other things as a part of the ritual. Then water, rice, gram seeds, and some special dishes made for the occasion are offered to the Banyan tree.
After completion of Puja, the fasting ladies tie the red and yellow thread around the tree trunk while doing Parikrama. Then, they recite or listen to the story of Savitri and Satyavan to complete the day’s puja.
