Chennai: Mumbai Indians have revealed three main reasons for retaining Suryakumar Yadav in place of Ishant Kishan.
All the teams yesterday released the details of the players they will retain for the IPL mega auction.
Accordingly the selections of the 5 regular Mumbai Indians team were very strong but full of surprises.
Mumbai team retention
The team retained Rohit Sharma as their primary choice, Jaspreet Bhumra as the 2nd player and Kieran Pollard as the outfielder. Ishant Kishan was expected to be selected as the 3rd player. Ishant Kishan is a very young man who can give long term service to the Mumbai team. But senior player Suryakumar Yadav was retained in the squad to replace Ishant Kishan last time out. He has been declared a salary of Rs 8 crore.
In this situation there are 3 most important reasons to choose Suryakumar instead of young action batsman Ishant.
Statistics
Ishant Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav both joined the Mumbai team during the 2018 mega auction. Although both have made a lot of achievements in the last 4 seasons, according to statistics, Suryakumar Yadav’s hand is up. Suryakumar has scored 300+ runs in all these 4 seasons. But Ishant Kishan has amassed 300+ runs only once. Not only this, Suryakumar Yadav has been playing more and more matches with consistent opportunities due to his consistent form. This is the primary reason.
The next captaincy
Every IPL team thinks they need to keep local players on their team. Because then it becomes more popular among the fans. Thus Suryakumar Yadav is a native of Mumbai. But Ishaan does not. Apart from this, Suryakumar has captained the Mumbai team in the domestic series. The 2nd reason is that his captaincy skills will help the Mumbai Indians greatly in the IPL.
Batsman to learn
Suryakumar Yadav is an excellent middle order batsman. Getting a good middle order player in the IPL series is a difficult one. If Suryakumar is left out of the auction today, it will be very difficult to get him back in the team for Rs 8 crore. But Ishan Kishano is the best opening player. There is no shortage of opening players in the IPL series. The Mumbai team has had opening players to replace players like Decock and Chris Lynn. Thus even if Ishaan is put up for auction, the good opener can be bought back. This is the 3rd reason.
“Overall Plan Close” .. BCCI wedging new teams .. Control over player selection
Chennai: Restrictions have been imposed on new teams as concessions have been given to players who can be contracted before the mega auction.
The major wise teams retained the maximum number of 4 players in the team.
BCCI offer
Thus now 2 new teams have started their missions. That means the BCCI had offered Lucknow and Ahmedabad, two newcomers to the IPL series, the chance to retain three players before the mega auction. 2 of them are Indian players and one is a foreign player.
New teams action
Accordingly the new teams have started talks with the players from today as the announcements of the old teams were released yesterday. In this case, the new teams are given the condition of how much to spend on the selection of players. Each team can spend up to Rs 90 crore in the IPL mega auction. It is said that new teams can spend Rs 33 crore in the first round.
How much
I.e. Rs. 15 crore and Rs. 12 crore and Rs. 7 crore can be fixed as salary. Of this 33 crore rupees, the teams will be paid according to their means. In that sense, the Lucknow team has a big wedge.
Lucknow team project
KL Rahul, who played for Punjab, would have been retained for Rs 16 crore. But the Lucknow team offered Rs 20 crore and Rahul left. Similarly, Hyderabad player Rashid Khan has left the team after being offered a salary of Rs 16 crore.
New problem
The total amount claimed to be paid to KL Rahul and Rashid Khan is Rs 36 crore. So either of the two should reduce one’s pay. Otherwise someone has to show up and win the auction. Whichever of the two, Rahul and Rashid Khan, is put up for auction, the Lucknow team is likely to incur even higher costs as all the teams will be competing to buy them. Thus currently that team is in turmoil. The same situation exists for the Ahmedabad team. The team is targeting Hardik Pandya and David Warner.
