Review
Dial 100 opens with Senior Police Officer Nikhil Sood starting his shift on a rainy night in the Mumbai Police Emergency Control Room, just like a normal day. After some time, we understand that his personal life is in mess because of his wife Prena’s (Sakshi Tanwar) troubled relationship with their teenage son Dhruv (Svar Kamble). While juggling with his wife’s continuous phone calls, Nikhil takes a distress call from a woman who wants to end her life. When that caller gets too personal, Nikhil Sood realizes that he has to race against the clock to keep the world from knowing about the dark secret that can keep the lives of his loved ones in danger.
Rensil D’Silva, who previously take over ‘Kurban’ (2009) and ’24’ (2013-16), has a knack for thrillers. When it comes to the making of this film about a night, in order to get audience engagement, the writing has to be razor-sharp. Unfortunately, Rensil’s writing disappoints and takes too long to get the point. Asif Ali Shaikh who is the editor of this film cuts the running time to below two hours, lending reliance to the story is of what happened on one night.
Manoj Bajpayee adds depth to his middle-class guy character who has failed both as a father and husband. However, he is smart to act in order to save his family. Neena Gupta’s performance as Seema Pallav shivers you as well emotionally involves you. After the revelation of her motive, she maintains a poker face. Sakshi Tanwar steals the show even with the limited screen time.
Finally, Rensil D’Silva delivers a revenge narrative that mainly depends on the performance rather than the promising premise. So, if you are willing to watch riveting performances, this movie is worth your time.
