Adi Shankaracharya Jayanti 2024: 6th May 2024 marks the 1234th birth anniversary of Adi Shankaracharya. Adi Shankara, who is also known as Jagadguru Shankaracharya, continues to be one of the significant religious leaders and philosophers of India. Adi Shankaracharya Jayanti is observed every year during the Shukla Paksha Panchami Tithi of Vaishakha or the fifth day of the full moon lunar fortnight.

Adi Shankaracharya Jayanti: History & Significance
Adi Shankara was born in 788 CE in Kalady, Kerala. From the age of 16-32, he traveled across the country and spread the Vedic messages. The saint passed away at a young age, but his teachings remain continued to inspire people across generations.
The Shankaracharya’s birth anniversary is celebrated annually during the Panchami Tithi during Shukla Paksha of Vaishaka month and falls between April and May. The Hindu saint is known for consolidating the doctrine of Advaita Vedanta. It is said that the works of Adi Shankaracharya, Madhvacharya, and Ramanujacharya, were instrumental in reviving Hinduism.
The three teachers formed the doctrines that are followed by their respective sects to date.
Adi Shankaracharya’s notable work includes various commentaries on Hindu scriptures including the 12 Upanishads and Bhagavad Gita. The Hindu hermit composed about 72 devotional hymns like Nirvana Shatakam, Sivananda Lahari, Soundarya Lahari, and Maneesha Panchakam.
