Mekapati Goutham Reddy: Andhra Pradesh Industries Minister Mekapati Goutham Reddy passed away following a heart attack at a private hospital in Hyderabad on Monday morning. Goutham Reddy was aged 50.
Goutham Reddy was rushed to Apollo hospitals after his collapse at his house in the early hours of Monday. However, he could not be revived and was declared dead at 9.16 am.
The government of Andhra Pradesh has announced a two-day state mourning as a mark of respect for the minister.
Mr. Goutham Reddy returned to Hyderabad on Sunday after spending 10 days in Dubai for Expo 2024.
AP Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy recalled their association and he noted “Words fail to describe the loss of my young Cabinet colleague”.
Telugu Desam Party (TDP) chief N. Chandrababu Naidu also expressed shock over the demise of the minister.
Goutham Reddy was the son of former MP Mekapati Rajamohan Reddy. He was first elected as MLA from Atmakur in 2014 and again in 2019. He became a minister in the Andhra Pradesh cabinet led by CM YS Jagan Mohan Reddy after the YSR Congress party came to power in 2019.
