Bank holidays in May 2024: Banks are likely to be shut for four days during the month of May 2024, as per the details available on the RBI (Reserve Bank of India) website. While there are some bank holidays that will be observed around the country, there are a few that are going to be region or state-specific.
The RBI has given the dates on which banks will be closed in May 2024. The central bank categorizes the banking holidays in the following way:
- Bank’s Closing of Accounts
- Holiday under Negotiable Instruments Act
- Holiday under Negotiable Instruments Act and Real-time Gross Settlement Holiday
List of bank holidays in May 2024
May 2: Eid-Ul-Fitr (Ramadan-Eid). Banks in Kochi and Thiruvanthapuram will be closed
May 3: Bhagvan Shree Parshuram Jayanti/Akshaya Tritiya/Ramjan-Eid (Eid-UI-Fitra)/Basava Jayanti. Banks in most places will be closed except Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram
May 9: Rabindranath Tagore’s Birthday. Banks in Kolkata will remain closed
May 16: Buddha Purnima. Banks in Agartala, Belapur, Bhopal, Jammu, Kanpur, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Chandigarh, Dehradun, Nagpur, Raipur, Ranchi, Shimla, New Delhi, and Srinagar will be closed
Apart from the above-mentioned holidays, banks will also be closed on second and fourth Saturdays and all Sundays.
