Kalicharan Maharaj: On Thursday, Chhhatisgarh Police arrested Hindu religious leader Kalicharan Maharaj from neighboring Madhya Pradesh. Four days back, FIR was registered against him for allegedly abusing Mahatma Gandhi. He is being brought to Chhattisgarh and there he would be taken to a court.
As per the police officials, three separate police teams were sent to Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra to arrest him. Raipur SP Prashant Agrawal said, “We found him 25 km from Khajuraho, Madhya Pradesh. He has taken a rented room near Bageshwar Dham. He was arrested at 4 am and is being brought to Raipur, he is expected to reach there by evening.”
Kalicharan went as a guest to ‘Dharam Sansad’ which was organized in Raipur on 25-26 December. e allegedly abused Mahatma Gandhi and hailed Nathuram Godse. Based on Congress leader Pramod Dubey’s complaint, an FIR was registered against him under IPC sections 505 (2) and 294.
Another case was also registered against Kalicharan Mahraj in the Akola district of Maharashtra for his speech in Raipur.
Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Narottam Mishra has objected to the way of arresting Kalicharan. Mishra said that the Chattisgarh Police violated norms by not informing the Madhya Pradesh Police about the action against Kalichran.
In response to Mishra, Chhattisgarh CM Bhupesh Baghel said, “Narottam Mishra should tell whether he is happy or sad about the arrest of a person who degraded Mahatma Gandhi? Chhattisgarh police followed proper rules while arresting him.”
