This auspicious day dedicated to Lord Ganesha is mostly celebrated in Maharashtra and Kokan area. The rest of the country celebrates the birth anniversary of Ganesha during the Bhadrapada month as Ganesha Chaturthi.
The Maharashtra people also celebrate Ganesha Chaturthi, but they did not observe this as the birth anniversary of Ganesha.
In Maharashtra, Ganesha Jayanti is also called Magha Shukla Chaturthi, Varad Chaturthi, and Til Chaturthi.
