Guru Nanak Jayanti History
According to the religious scriptures, it is believed that Guru Nanak is the first Guru of Sikhism. Guru Nanak Dev was born in Talwandi Nanakana Sahib on April 15 1469. Guru Nanak Dev is said to be laid the foundation of Sikh society, hence he is called the founder. The day is to honor his life, achievements, and legacy.
At the age of 16, Guru Nanak Dev married Sulakshmi, who lived in Lakhauki and this couple had two sons Srichand and Lakshmichand. After the birth of his sons, Guru Nanak Dev went out on a pilgrimage with his companion and used to preach while this journey in many countries.

Guru Nanak Jayanti Celebrations
Guru Nanak Jayanti celebrations usually go on for three days. One day before the birth anniversary, there is a procession where the Guru Granth Sahib is carried on a palanquin accompanied by music, and the ‘Gatka’ teams demonstrate their swordsmanship.
On Guru Purab Day, there are prayers conducted in Gurudwaras first thing in the morning. Various prayers go on till past noon, and after that Langar is served.
Guru Nanak is said to have been born at 1.20 am so around this time, the congregation starts singing Gurbani. The Kadrai Halwa is the traditional Prasad given to the devotees.
